Dogs Are Not Livestock

South Korea are still eating mans best friendKorean Animal Rights Groups, along with their counterparts in Taiwan, have lobbied Taiwans lawmakers to help stop the South Korean government from amending a law that will classify dogs as livestock. In South Korea eating dogs is still a common practice.

The Korean Animal Rights Group CARE (Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth) estimate that around 2 million dogs are eaten in South Korea every year.

Whilst there are still a small minority of people who eat dogs in Taiwan they have banned the use of dogs for meat.

The thought of dogs being treated as livestock is obscene. What an awful betrayal of the instinctive pleasure dogs get from helping people, keeping us safe and keeping us company.

Then again, I’m speaking from the perspective of someone whose culture views dogs as friends.

I bet they don’t taste very nice, anyway!

I agree, I love dogs and cannot believe there are still societies that treat animals with such contempt.

I keep pigs, enjoy their company, find them smarter than most dogs, and eat them. Why should it be any different with dogs? Why is the “dogs as pets” culture any better than the “dogs as food” one?

Oh, and do note that while I don’t have a problem with people eating dogs (or anything else), I do have a problem with people who keep any animal in poor conditions or are cruel to them. If you are going to eat them, treat them with respect.
