How Green is Your Bathroom?

Your bathroom ranks alongside your kitchen as the most used room in your house. But do you have any idea how your bathroom use impacts the environment.

Stop and think, just for a moment, about all of the resources that you and your bathroom use. There will, of course, be lots of resources used in the manufacture of your stylish white bathroom suite, your tiles, heating system, décor and sundries. But daily your bathroom will be consuming vast amounts of water and energy. Then there are all of the lotions and potions that we all use to clean ourselves, and to keep our bathrooms hygienic.

Here are a handful of tips that, if followed, will make you feel a little better about the impact that you and your bathroom has upon the environment:

  1. Make it do. If you were thinking of replacing your bathroom, think again. Can you make do with the one that you have?
  2. Consider installing a low-flow shower head. Lessening the flow of water will lower the amount of water used.
  3. Cut down on the time spent in the shower.
  4. Ensure there are no leaks anywhere in your bathroom.
  5. Reduce the amount of water used when flushing the toilet.
  6. Install energy efficient lighting throughout your bathroom.
  7. Ensure that your bathroom is well insulated to retain the warmth.
  8. Use only natural cleaning products for bathroom cleaning.
  9. Try to reduce your use of non-natural soaps, shampoos, lotions and potions.
