How Green is Your Hotel

green_hotels.jpgThese days we are all acutely aware of the need to recycle, to use energy saving lightbulbs, not to waste water and to do our bit for the environment. But what about when we are travelling?

Luckily there are many hotels that are highly aware that being green is not only good for the environment and the planet but it can also be good for their business. Introducing energy saving practices including energy management systems and motion sensitive light switches can significantly reduce energy bills. The same goes for water management systems that can reduce water waste.

Waste disposal is another area that can be enormously costly for a hotel. By introducing effective recycling procedures and avoiding products that are over-packaged the amount of waste can be significantly reduced along with the cost of dealing with the waste.

Introducing green practices will also contribute towards making the hotel environment healthier for both staff and hotel visitors. By reducing the amount of toxic substances used around the hotel for cleaning there will be far less that can be absorbed or breathed in. This can only be a good thing for the health of staff and hotel visitors.

So the next time you are about to head off on your travels and book a room at a Heathrow Hotel, ask first about their Green policies.

There is one way to make a green hotel, and that is to not go!

Seriously though, one thing I can always do in a hotel is muck about with the temperature in my room. I always put it on the max because I can.

Are there any actual eco-friendly “green” hotels?
