Keep Your Car Longer and Save the Planet

eco_generator.jpgThere are a number of well-known green driving or eco-driving tips that can make a genuinely positive contribution towards lowering emissions and wasting less fuel. But one of the biggest positive changes you can make to your motoring habits is to change cars less frequently.

It’s a simple thing to do. Instead of changing your car say every 1 or 2 years, keep it for another couple of years. This will result in fewer cars being manufactured which will reduce the enormous environmental impact of the vehicle manufacturing process. Simple.

Another useful tip that will save you money, but not make any great impact upon the environment, is to lease your next car rather than buy it outright. Car leasing has long been used by business fleet managers but these days many individuals are realising that they can make some significant savings by leasing their new cars over a fixed period of maybe 3, 4 or 5 years.

Leasing means that you know what your monthly outlay will be and you can arrange for the dealer to take responsibility for all maintenance. When the time comes to change your car you simply take it back to the dealer, pick up a new one and sign a new contract for however many years you want to keep the vehicle.

So if you really want to do something for the environment change your car less frequently and if you want to do something for your bank balance take a look at car leasing.
