Pest Control for the Green Gardener
Like many people at this time of year I’m preparing my garden for what I hope will be a bumper year of beautiful blooms. That is if I can keep the pests at bay.
Last year my roses suffered terribly from a massive infestation of Aphids. Not wanting to resort to all out chemical warfare I introduced a platoon of ladybirds but I think that I was a little late in doing so as the heavy aphid reinforcments were too much for the over-fed ladybirds.
This year I’m determined to keep my beautiful rambling rector (a climbing rose variety) aphid free so I shall be trying some lacewing larvae, which have been highly recommended. But I’d also like to investigate companion planting. If anyone can recommend suitable plants that will keep the aphids away from my roses I would love to hear your suggestions.

I’ve been told there are some herbs that can be used to deter pests but aphids can be a real problem. Ladybugs their larvae and lavewing larvae are most effective with these pesky mites.
